European shares closed higher. The course of the sittings for the next few days will be dictated by investors’ reactions to the FED (scheduled for tomorrow) meetings of the ECB, the Swiss National Bank and the Bank of England (all scheduled for Thursday). The companies belonging to the technological sector were distinguished from the others. Gemalto, the Dutch company, rose 34.57% after the French technology consulting firm, Atos, launched a bid to buy 4300 M. €. The closure of a pipeline (Forties) in the North Sea, which significantly eliminates supplies in a market already constrained by production cuts by OPEC leaders, boosted oil prices to the highest since mid-2015. this is the main pipeline of the British oil explorations with a capacity of 450,000 barrels per day and will be closed for a few weeks for repairs.
The beginning of the meeting of the US Federal Reserve, whose outcome will only be known tomorrow, was the main theme of the day. In the business field, Boeing shares rose about 3% after the company raised its dividend and approved a buyback of 18,000 M.USD. Apple was trading without any significant swings, after confirming yesterday that it has agreed to acquire Shazam Entertainment, a UK-based application that allows users to identify songs by pointing their smartphone to an audio source. Verizon rose by more than 2%, helped by the fact that an investment house raised its target price and its recommendation of ‘neutral’ to ‘buy’.
